Steam in Action is now 18-months old and within a few days we will have
over 800 members registered. It has certainly been a much greater success
than we thought and it shows that there are many more people out there who are
dedicated to ensuring that South Africa’s magnificent rail and steam heritage
survives into the future.
There are a lot of people we would like to thank for all their support since
we started but in some ways we feel that we are only now really gaining
momentum.
We publish a monthly newsletter that is often very detailed but we do urge
our members to study it in great detail and to please take the time to
contribute on issues that they have strong views on or where they have
background information that might be valuable to us.
It is not Steam in Action’s responsibility to publish details of train
movements. These can be ascertained by staying in touch with the major
operators, namely Reefsteamers (www.reefsteamers.co.za),
Friends of the Rail (www.friendsoftherail.com),
and as far as Narrow Gauge is concerned the Apple Express (www.apple-express.co.za).
Although our manifesto is nearly two years old it is still entirely valid and
if you are not entirely sure what Steam in Action’s mandate and function is
then please take a moment to read it.
