Welcome to Steam In Action
Steam in Action was started some years ago in order to draw attention to the many difficulties steam preservation and steam tourism organisations have to deal with in South Africa. Our intervention resulted in a large number of locomotives being saved from the scrap heap. It has certainly been a much greater success than initially expected and it shows there are many people out there who are dedicated to ensuring that South Arica's magnificent rail and steam heritage survives into the future.
Resulting from our strenuous efforts we were requested by the Heritage Rail Association of South Africa, the statutory umbrella body for the industry, to give them an opportunity to try and achieve results through negotiations with the authorities. We agreed to this but more than two years later we are singularly unimpressed with the lack of results. We have therefore decided to raise...Steam In Action News
